This project visualizes my view that many businesses impose unrealistic wait times. I aim to express this by depicting the passage of time through elderly figures and various symbolic items. A spiralling clock appears throughout the work, capturing the sense of waiting for an uncertain end. To connect with the business theme, I incorporated fictional waiting lists and delay notices.
I used numerous textures, some of which can’t be fully appreciated digitally
The project is part of a class called "Ambition." At the start, I had no idea what to create or where to begin. I conducted a lot of research, but nothing really clicked. Eventually, I revisited some style boards I had created on Pinterest, and inspiration finally struck.
I titled my concept See My Opinion. My goal was to express my view through a physical poster designed to provoke thought—nothing more. I set a few rules for myself, such as using only four colors and avoiding a collage format.
The reason I chose this approach is that I wanted to create a poster without the aim of advertising anything. Additionally, I admire this art style and aspire to develop my skills in it, though I know it requires practice.
Since this style doesn’t lend itself well to sketching, I focused on the composition. I created many small thumbnail sketches and selected a few to guide my work.
To ensure I stayed on track, I planned to build the poster in layers. This approach proved useful, as my first attempt at drawing the cuckoo clock didn’t work out.
Initially, I designed it to fit an A2 paper. However, a classmate suggested that it didn’t need to conform to a standard size, so I decided to expand the layout. Thanks to another classmate’s feedback, I also incorporated texture to make the piece one of a kind and took advantage of reflections since it’s not a digital piece.
At first, I played it safe, but I gradually allowed myself more creative freedom. I’m really glad I did, as it brought the piece closer to the style I envisioned. I’m truly proud of the final outcome. For my next project, I’d like to add more visuals to better support my message, as I feel that aspect could be stronger.
Working this way was freeing, even leading me to use a color I usually avoid.
Throughout this project, I learned a lot, particularly about breaking through ideals and "rules." I hope my next project will be just as impactful.
